Personal Secret System

8PSS

Your identity is not your password.

8PSS explores a private identity system where encrypted secrets belong to the person and can be presented when identity needs to be proven.

01 / Model

Begin with the person.

Person Identity Secrets Proof Access

the old abstraction

02 / The system

Three terms. One lifecycle.

P Personal
The system belongs to the person. The encrypted private vault is authoritative.
S Secret
A secret does not have to be a password. It may be generated, captured, imported, derived or cryptographically created.
S System
Generation, encryption, authorization, storage, retrieval, Autofill and deletion are parts of one lifecycle.

03 / Infinity lifecycle

The vault is a relationship, not a destination.

The 8PSS continuous lifecycle Two connected loops cross at the encrypted vault and identity relationship. Generate leads to secret and vault. Identity leads to prove and access. Access returns to the vault. Create Secret Vault Identity Prove Access encrypted relationship
Generate → Vault → Identify → Authenticate → Vault A continuous system for creating, holding, proving and deliberately forgetting.

04 / Principle

8PSS is a Personal Secret System in which encrypted credentials belong to identities, rather than identities being reduced to passwords.

05 / Origin

From Magic 8 to 8PSS.

Magic 8 began by turning local randomness into memorable passphrases.

8PSS extends the idea: generate the secret, keep it private, associate it with identity, and present it only when required.

Current Magic 8 web project

Local passphrase and password generation, with an optional themed fortune. Secrets are generated in the browser.

Concept and direction

Encrypted local credential storage, biometric authorization, Android Autofill, identity-associated secrets, TOTP material, passkeys and cryptographic credentials where appropriate, and deliberate deletion.

Items described as direction are not claims of completed or independently verified functionality.
